Scott Gellatly, LAND OF LIGHT ETERNAL, 2020
Imagery comes from where I feel the most deeply rooted. These paintings have their origins in the numerous, small wetland areas near my home in Portland. Multiple sketches and plein air paintings have been created on-site, catching the endless supply of compositions and color relationships. These studies serve as the trigger for my paintings executed in the studio – and what is released are color-driven, gestural works that become further removed, visually, from their source; yet closer to the sensations gifted by nature.
