I am constantly amazed by the tapestry of color, texture, and pattern of the natural world.
I draw imagery from multiple sketches and studies created at local rivers, wetland areas and nature preserves. These sketchbook sized works in casein serve as a means of information gathering to respond to in the studio. The resulting body of oil paintings and monotypes become further removed, visually, from their source, placing a greater emphasis on chromatic color interactions, dynamic compositions through converging shapes, and rhythmic patterns. I invite my work to straddle the line between representation and abstraction creating a tension between the real and the imagined; pictorial space and a celebration of the luscious surface of paint.
