MARYANN PULS: RELATING TO NATURE

7 - 28 August 2025
My work explores the merging of human-made objects with elements of the natural world. The materials and references I use in my painting and sculpture often stem from indirect or ephemeral sources—previous observations, interpretations, and adornments of nature.

So much of what I see and experience of “nature” is an intertwined version, a mix. I’m amused by artificial wood and feel most comfortable at the edge of nature. My work is a result of my desire to rearrange the numerous human reiterations and observations of “nature.”

Visual artist, MaryAnn Puls uses everyday visual stimuli, especially the interactions and unique amalgamations of nature and human made elements as constant fodder and themes in her abstract paintings and assemblages. She lives and works in Portland, Oregon. Exhibitions include 12 solo shows, numerous juried and group shows, awarded a Regional Arts & Culture Council grant, a Ford Family Foundation Golden Spot Award, and represented by Laura Vincent Design & Gallery, Portland, Oregon.
