“It’s important not to let your agile mind overpower your instincts or undermine your intuition. Don’t let logic or reasoning get in the way of what you are compelled to do.”  Author unknown

Painting represents a leap of faith and a belief that turning the lens on oneself will yield something of value. When I face a blank canvas I don’t know where I am headed but I am curious to see where I will go. Current events challenge long held perceptions and seep into my psyche and my work. I am influenced by recent pivotal events and my place in the world as a woman.

Shapes and line work are fundamental to my abstract practice. As I work on a painting the meaning and relationship of these elements evolves with each layer, but much of the time I am completely lost. Along the way, I start to see a connective thread. Like breadcrumbs, I follow until the painting and I are comfortable with each other, and the dialogue between us has matured. There is now a clarity about what the painting is about. I will edit if I feel there is clutter or may add more marks to refine the story. This final stage of a painting is my favorite.
